Oprah Winfrey will campaign for Barack Obama in California on Sunday. Almost two months ago she joined his campaign in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. In each state, she brought out tens of thousands of potential voters, especially women. Oprah's reputation as an advocate for women's issues is critical to helping Obama close the gap with Hillary Clinton in the final days before next Tuesday when hundreds of delegates will be chosen in at least twenty states.
Even though the media pundits argued that she had no real or measurable impact when she campaigned earlier, no one can say that she did not. At the least, her endorsement of Obama gave voters a valid reason to take a close look at the candidate and apparently many of them liked what they saw.
Whereas early on Billary was expected to take a large share of the women's vote in Iowa and the black vote in South Carolina, in the end Obama swept across Hillary like a tornado. Let's hope her influence helps to close the gap on Super Tuesday.
